Emergency aid and psychosocial support of victims of violence
Situation: The violent conflict between Myanmar’s military forces and armed rebel groups has intensified further since 2023. During counter-insurgency operations, the military junta is committing war crimes. Human rights organizations accuse the government and military of serious human rights violations. The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for the ruler and military commander Min Aung Hlaing for crimes against humanity in connection with the deportation and persecution of the Rohingya.
The conflict has led 3.5 million people to be displaced internally. The need for humanitarian support has been increasing dramatically. An estimated 19.9 million people are expected to be dependent on aid in 2025.
Many live in precarious conditions without adequate food, water and medical care. The devastating monsoon flooding in 2024 brought further hardship. Women and girls are particularly vulnerable, facing an increased risk of violence.
Target group:
The project reaches 3,463 families in 51 municipalities with 14,698 people in total. Among them are internally displaced persons, host communities and economic migrants.
Planned measures:
- Distribute food and cash to 6,500 people
- Secure access to water, hygiene and sanitary facilities for 4,000 people
- Build latrines, water purification plants and water treatment facilities
- Train and offer start-up assistance to 1,530 households to secure their livelihood
- Empower women through training, psychosocial support
The Redel Foundation is supporting the project with €80,000.
