Medical care and food aid for people displaced by civil war

Situation:
The Central African Republic is one of the most fragile states in the world: state structures have largely collapsed, health services have been destroyed or can no longer operate and large parts of the country are controlled by militias.

Many different groups are vying for power. The state is widely considered to have failed. In the project area (sub-prefectures of Kouango, Ndjoukou, Mobaye), access to basic healthcare, medicines, qualified staff and functioning water sources is severely limited. The child and maternal mortality rates are among the highest in the world. To make matters worse, the population has become increasingly divided between Christians and Muslims, especially since the civil war in 2013. Conflicts between religious groups and local communities as well as deep-seated trauma further strain social cohesion.

Goals:
Improve the health of young children and pregnant/breastfeeding women; reduce malnutrition; strengthen dialogue and peace structures.

Target group(s):
3,800 particularly vulnerable families (approximately 23,000 people in the total), including an estimated 7,000–8,000 children under the age of five and around 3,500–4,000 pregnant/breastfeeding women.

Planned measures:
Improved basic healthcare and procure medicines and essential medical equipment for 10 health centres and the additional mobile clinics.
Access to clean water through the rehabilitation of 15 wells, water supply for 4,500 people, food security and promotion of a peaceful coexistence.
