Emergency aid and distribution of food

According to UN OCHA, in 2022 there will be an estimated 22.3 million people in Ethiopia in need of humanitarian aid (an increase of 166% compared to 2020). This includes approx. 9.4 million people in northern Ethiopia alone, who are dependent on food aid due to the ongoing conflict in the region.

By the end of the year, there will also be 3.7 million people in Tigray, 1.8 million people in Amhara and 1.1 million people in Afar who need agricultural humanitarian aid (such as the provision of seeds, irrigation systems and help with livestock). There are another 3.9 million people in Tigray who are dependent on basic medical care, as well as approx. 3.1 million children and nursing mothers in all three regions who are at risk of becoming malnourished. This project supports a total of 192,684 people, 91,049 of whom are women, 9,690 children and 9,013 elderly. The project is aiming to achieve two things: to improve livelihoods through the provision of humanitarian aid, in particular food, as well as strengthen the social cohesion of various ethnic groups in the regions of Tigray, Amhara and Afar that are affected by conflict.
