Various militia groups have either been fighting each other or the Congolese army, often for access to valuable raw materials. As a result, this country has the largest number of internally displaced persons in Africa. According to UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, there are 5.9 million people on the run. The situation has become particularly bad in recent months with the number of refugees rising sharply; 600,000 in Goma alone.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the Ngangi Camp, one of the largest refugee camps in Goma, Caritas is providing 1,700 families with emergency humanitarian aid. The overall situation at the camp, as well as the hygienic conditions, are very poor. Conditions for the people there are extremely precarious. Caritas is supplying food, household items such as water canisters, blankets, clothing, kitchen utensils and hygiene articles, as well as clean drinking water.<\/p>\n<p>The Redel Foundation is
