The country has struggled to find peace since the outbreak of the civil war in 2013. According to the United Nations, 2.6 million people, out of a total population of approx. 4.6 million people, are dependent on humanitarian aid. There are also around 1.2 million people displaced.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following the escalation of violence during elections in 2020 and 2021, approx. 200,000 people found themselves newly displaced and are now dependent on humanitarian aid. Many have arrived on church grounds and to other temporary camps without food or possessions. Those who return home find their houses ransacked and destroyed. Women and girls are often traumatised from the violence to which they have been subjected.<\/p>\n<p>With support from Caritas international, Caritas in CAR has begun to provide emergency relief to those who have been affected by the civil war and the expulsions. Food, seeds, household items, mosquito nets, water canisters, blankets, cooking utensils and toiletries have been distributed. The traumatised victims of sexual violence are receiving psychological support in addition to material aid.<\/p>\n<p>The Redel Foundation is supporting this project with
