class=\"text-transform: uppercase\"><strong>Tanzania<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h1>Support for disabled children and young people at the Monduli rehabilitation centre<\/h1>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n<section  class='av_textblock_section av-lfwo5m0t-20291af1311608ab4d1ea02ffc69b6db '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p><strong>The vast majority of people in Tanzania show little to no awareness for the problems faced by people with disability, who are often ostracised and left to their fate. Many children are isolated in their own home, hidden from neighbours or even chained up; time and again, there are infants killed because they are disabled.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The \u201cSt. John Paul II Rehabilitation Centre   Handicapped Service Programme\u201d, in partnership with Caritas international, has years of experience in working with people with disability. Caritas international has supported this project since 1989 and was heavily involved in funding the building and infrastructure of the rehabilitation grounds. Here, 1,500 children and young people with physical and\/or mental disability, as well as 300 adults with mostly a physical disability, are provided with support. The aim of the project is to help people with disability better integrate into society, as well as improve their overall health, family situation and self-esteem through medical assistance, physiotherapy treatment and advisory services, among others.
